This method is the safest and the most effective means of removing wax from the canal. It is a very quick method of removing all wax and debris with the ear canal being visible throughout the whole treatment.

Using the microscope and suction technique, we ensure safe and effective means of wax removal.

1. You will be asked to fill out a medical questionnaire and sign a consent form.

5. Wax and debris will be removed carefully.

2. The Ear nurse will explain the procedure.

6. Forceps may be used to remove hard plugs of wax.

3. The Ear nurse will place a small cone in your ear to enable her to see the canal.

7. It may be uncomfortable if your ear canal is sensitive.

4. A small suction tube with a probe attached will be carefully placed into your ear canal the suction sound will make a windy sound.

8. The nurse will advise you how often you should have your ears suctioned.

Ear Wax Softening Procedure

For 3-5 days before your appointment:
  • Olive oil is the best softening agent however you can also use any type of cooking oil
  • Sit comfortably with head tilted horizontally or lie on your side
  • Drop 2-3 drops of olive oil into ear canal
  • Leave for 5-10 minutes
  • After 10 minutes dry any excess fluid as necessary
